FAQs
How old does my daughter/son need to be to participate?
Children who meet the criteria for at least U6 can participate. For the Spring 2024 season, that is any child born in 2018 and later. See this chart to know what age group your child falls under. Some kids may not be mature enough physically or emotionally to participate at the youngest ages and that's alright. They'll get there. Coaches can work with the parents to assess whether their kid is ready. There is always the option to participate as a practice only player until your child is ready to travel to tournaments.
What team would my child play on?
Teams are determined by the year your child was born, not their grade in school. Sometimes kids from the same class may play on different teams depending if they were born before or after January in the school year. This rule set by US Soccer and all of the Wyoming clubs and tournaments follow it. To see what team your child would be on, you can consult this chart at US Soccer.
Does my child need to know how to play soccer to join a team?
Absolutely not! Everyone has to start somewhere. We gladly accept newcomers at all age levels.
When do you practice?
Most teams practice two nights a week March-May, and August-October. The schedule is up to each coach, and they will contact you with more information after registration.
Where do you practice?
Our U8 and U10 teams practice at the Rainwater Fields on Gilbert Street. U12 and U15 practice at Trapper West on Tower Blvd.
Where are games played?
Games are played over a weekend around the state and sometimes over the border in Montana. The teams have often played in Casper, Lander, Riverton, Gillette, Sheridan, Cody, Billings and Bozeman.
Can my child be on the team, but not travel?
There is an option to be a practice only player at a reduced rate.
Where do we stay when on the road for a tournament?
Players and their families are responsible for booking their own accommodations. Our families often stay at local hotels, VRBOs and campgrounds. We suggest arriving for a tournament on Friday night as games often start early Saturday morning. Most families choose to checkout on Sunday before their last games. Hotels can book up for tournaments, so it's best to book early. Sometimes, but rarely, we have to cancel a trip to a tournament, so refundable reservations are recommended.
HMUSA has partnered with Go & Give to receive up to 30% off any hotel room. By booking your hotel through this application YOU save money, but Go & Give also donates back to HMUSA for every room booked. Go & Give can be used for any hotel you need, not just soccer tournaments. To take advantage of these great savings you simply need to:
Will my child play on a single-gender or co-ed team?
It depends on how many kids we have register in that age group. We prefer to have all-girls and all-boy teams whenever possible, but sometimes as a small town, we just don't have the numbers to field two teams. It is part of the mission statement of the club to provide opportunities for every child who wants to play soccer.
Can I coach my kid's team?
We love parent volunteers. If you are interested in helping out the club as a coach, please contact our Coaching Director, Travis Rapp.
